Since religion promotes hate and divisive attitudes, would it benefit society to eliminate it ?

I recently clicked onto a question that demanded why God wasn't the all-inclusive authority in the US government. This has raised my awareness that the religious are not willing to lose their political vigilante behavior in advancing their agendas. The facts are evident that organized religion has single handedly spearheaded some of the worst atrocities in history. Religious leaders in history have used bigotry to justify m suicides, genoicides and viral hatred against the common good of embracing differences.
