If god watches over the pope, why does he need to be encased in bullet-proof gl?

Better yet, if the pope trusts so much in God and believes that God can call you home at any time, you have a time to die, and that he believes he's going to heaven. What's he afraid of? If he believes God has a purpose for him here he shouldn't worry about getting shot in the first place, right? Catholics believe there is a purpose for everything, maybe there would be a purpose in his getting shot, if it's God's will as they say, how could you really prevent it? What say ye Catholics?
